Garage Door Bottom Seal Replacement in Tampa Bay

Trim to length with a utility knife, then open and close the door to confirm the seal contacts the floor evenly without lifting the door off the floor stop prematurely.

In Tampa Bay homes where the garage door bottom rail is not level relative to the floor because the door cable tension is unequal side to side, the door may make good contact on one side and not the other even with a correctly profiled astragal. Check whether the door bottom rail is level when the door is closed -- a spirit level on the bottom rail with the door closed identifies rail lean. Side and Top Weatherstripping Replacement

The door stop surface may have adhesive residue from foam-backed material, and cleaning this before installing new material allows the new adhesive backing to bond cleanly.

Measure the side jamb height from the garage floor to the door header on each side. Cut the new side weatherstripping to this length with a utility knife or tin snips. Position the new strip so the vinyl bulb or foam section faces the door panel surface -- when the door closes, the door panel should compress the seal slightly across its full length. Install from the top down on each side, fastening with the nails or screws specified for the material. The top header weatherstripping cuts to the full door width and installs last, overlapping the top of the side strips.
